Three Consecutive Years of Shiv Puran Katha in Shravan Recognized by Golden Book of World Records; 1.2 Million Sq. Ft. Portable Tensile Shelters Also Set a Record
Bhilai, Chhattisgarh: The holy month of Shravan witnessed a remarkable confluence of spirituality, devotion and record-breaking achievements in Bhilai, as the Shiv Mahapuran Katha narrated by renowned spiritual storyteller Pandit Pradeep Mishra ji became the centrepiece of two distinctive World Records recognized by the Golden Book of World Records (GBWR).
The first World Record, “Most Consecutive Years Shiv Puran Katha Narrated in the Same Month and Same City by a Kathavachak,” was jointly achieved by Bol Bam Seva Evam Kalyan Samiti and Mr. Daya Singh from Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, India. During August 17–23, 2026, Pandit Pradeep Mishra ji narrated the revered Shiv Mahapuran Katha at Bhilai, marking the third consecutive year in which the Katha was organized in the same city during the holy month of Shravan. The continuation of the same sacred narration, by the same Kathavachak, in the same city and during the same auspicious month established a distinctive record of sustained devotional tradition.
The grand religious gathering witnessed the participation of devotees from Bhilai and different parts of the country. The venue became a vibrant centre of devotion, with thousands of devotees gathering to listen to the sacred narration of Shiv Mahapuran and participate in the spiritual proceedings.
Golden Book of World Records Recognition
The achievement was officially recognized by the Golden Book of World Records, adding an international distinction to the spiritual event. Dr. Manish Vishnoei, Asia Head, Golden Book of World Records, travelled from New Delhi to Bhilai for the occasion and presented the official World Record certificate to Mr. Daya Singh, President of Bol Bam Seva Evam Kalyan Samiti, in the presence of Sehore Wale Baba Pandit Pradeep Mishra ji.
The World Record recognition was associated by the GBWR Assessment Team headed by Ms. Sonal Rajesh Sharma, Record Management Judge, who was part of the GBWR team involved in the record recognition and documentation process.
The distinguished gathering also included several prominent public representatives, social workers and personalities, including Dr. Saroj Pandey, National Vice-President of the Bharatiya Janata Party and former Member of Parliament; Amar Agrawal, MLA, Bilaspur; Neeraj Pal, Mayor of Bhilai; Alka Baghamar, Mayor of Durg; former MLA Gopal Agrawal; social worker Gopal Khandelwal; G. Suresh Babu; Raman Sahni; Prakash Parakh; Santosh Agrawal; Ratan Agrawal; Sunil Goyal; and Dileep Agrawal, along with numerous other dignitaries and devotees.
The guests congratulated Mr. Daya Singh and Bol Bam Seva Evam Kalyan Samiti for the achievement and appreciated their efforts in preserving and promoting spiritual and cultural traditions on such a grand scale.
Pandit Pradeep Mishra Ji’s Spiritual Message
During the Shiv Mahapuran Katha, Pandit Pradeep Mishra ji narrated the sacred episode concerning the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mata Sati and explained the profound spiritual teachings associated with the story.
Elaborating on the episode involving Daksha Prajapati, he explained how Sati chose Lord Shiva as her husband despite opposition and how Lord Shiva’s virtues were tested through questions posed by seven Brahmins. He emphasized that the teachings contained in these ancient narratives continue to offer meaningful guidance for contemporary life.
Pandit Mishra ji highlighted the importance of contentment, self-control, service and humility, explaining that contentment is among life’s greatest forms of wealth, while anger is one of its greatest afflictions. He also emphasized the importance of serving one’s parents, describing such service as a sacred form of pilgrimage. He urged devotees to overcome ego, respect their family members and stand by their loved ones through both happiness and sorrow.
Through his narration, Pandit Mishra ji conveyed that the essence of Shiv Mahapuran lies not merely in listening to a sacred story, but in transforming its teachings into values and conduct in everyday life.
Second World Record: Largest Portable Tensile Shelter by Capacity
The grand Shiv Mahapuran Katha also became the setting for a second remarkable World Record, “Largest Portable Tensile Shelter by Capacity.” During August 17–23, 2026, portable tensile shelters covering approximately 1,200,000 square feet were erected to accommodate the vast gathering of devotees attending the Shiv Mahapuran Katha narrated by Pandit Pradeep Mishra ji.
During the rainy season, the enormous temporary shelter infrastructure provided a covered and organized environment for thousands of devotees participating in the seven-day spiritual event. The scale of the arrangement reflected the magnitude of the congregation and the extensive planning undertaken to facilitate the participation of devotees from different regions.
The achievement added another significant dimension to the historic event, demonstrating that the ‘Bhilai Shiv Mahapuran Katha’ was remarkable not only for its spiritual continuity but also for the extraordinary scale of infrastructure created for the congregation.
A Historic Milestone for Bhilai
The twin World Record achievements brought together spirituality, devotion, organization and community participation on a remarkable scale. One record celebrated the three consecutive years of Shiv Puran Katha narration in the same month and the same city by the same Kathavachak, while the second recognized the extraordinary scale of portable tensile shelter infrastructure established for the gathering.
