In a remarkable tribute to senior citizens and Indian family values, Shri Agrasen Mahasabha, Indore, created a new world record by organising the largest felicitation ceremony for octogenarians and older men, honouring 81 distinguished citizens aged 81 years and above from multiple states of India. The achievement has been officially recognised by the Golden Book of World Records (GBWR), which awarded a world record certificate during the ceremony.
The historic event was organised at Hotel Solaris, Indore, during the 81st birthday celebrations of Mr. Mohanlal Bansal, founder member and former president of Shri Agrasen Mahasabha. Acting on his vision and suggestion, senior citizens from different parts of the country were invited to Indore along with their family members and were honoured collectively in what became a unique and inspiring social initiative.
A Celebration of Respect, Values and Gratitude:
The gathering was much more than a record-setting event. It was a celebration of the wisdom, experience and contributions of the elderly.
Addressing the gathering, senior social workers Mr. Vinod Agrawal and Mr. Premchand Goyal, along with guests from across the country, emphasized that elders occupy a place in society similar to that of a gardener who lovingly nurtures every flower and bud in a garden. A garden without its gardener soon loses its beauty; likewise, a society that neglects its elders risks losing its values, guidance and cultural heritage.
Speakers highlighted that descendants of Maharaja Agrasen are fortunate to belong to families where respect for elders remains deeply rooted. They stressed that while wealth can be inherited, the greatest legacy parents and grandparents can leave behind is a culture of values, respect and responsibility. The tradition of honouring senior citizens, they said, is essential for building a cultured, compassionate and prosperous society.
Grand Felicitation of Senior Citizens:
All 81 senior citizens were honoured with cit ations, gifts, mementoes, shawls and coconuts (Shri Phal) by Shri Agrasen Mahasabha. Their family members also joined the celebrations, making the occasion a memorable collective “Amrit Mahotsav” dedicated to longevity, service and social contribution.
Many of the honoured elders have devoted their lives to community service, social reform and philanthropic activities. Guests noted that the initiative set an inspiring example for other social organisations across the country to recognise and celebrate their senior citizens with dignity, affection and gratitude.
World Record Recognition:
The achievement was recognised by the Golden Book of World Records, which issued a certificate with the title “Largest Felicitation Ceremony for Octogenarians and Older Men.”
During the ceremony, Dr. Manish Vishnoei, Asia Head of Golden Book of World Records, presented the world record certificate to Mr. Mohanlal Bansal, senior social workers Vinod Agrawal and Premchand Goyal, and members of the organising committee amidst enthusiastic applause from attendees.
The certificate records that Eighty One octogenarians and older men were felicitated together at a single ceremony in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India.
Warm Welcome and Memorable Farewell:
The programme commenced with a formal welcome by Rajesh Jindal (President), Anup Singhal (Secretary), Arun Ashtawale (Convenor), Badri Bansal (Coordinator) and Rajesh Bansal, who greeted guests arriving from various parts of India.
Following the celebrations, Shri Agrasen Mahasabha hosted a heartfelt farewell ceremony for all visiting dignitaries and senior citizens. Participants expressed their appreciation for the hospitality extended by the people of Indore and resolved to organise similar senior citizen felicitation programmes in their own cities and states.
The event concluded with a powerful message: societies flourish when they honour their elders, preserve family values and celebrate those whose lives have laid the foundation for future generations.
