Vidushi Deeksha V., a Bharatanatyam artist from Udupi district (Karnataka), has set forth a claim to the Golden Book of World Records by performing Bharatanatyam dance for 216 hours (Nine Days). The extraordinary performance was held from 21st August to 30th August 2025 at G. Shankar Government Women’s First Grade College, Udupi.

This achievement was organized under the aegis of _’Ratna Sanjeev Kalamandal, Manipal’_, and is being hailed as one of the most remarkable and daring feats in the field of Bharatanatyam dance.

World Record Verification and Certification

At the concluding ceremony, Dr. Manish Vishnoei (Asia Head, Golden Book of World Records) felicitated Deeksha with a provisional certificate for the “Longest Performance of Bharatanatyam Dance.” He stated that the attempt is commendable and the final certification would be awarded after verification of all technical aspects such as prescribed breaks, etc. Praising Deeksha, he said:
“Deeksha comes from a ‘small’ place, but she dares to dream ‘big’. She belongs to an ‘ordinary’ family, yet she has the courage to achieve ‘extraordinary’ dreams. Her achievement is an inspiration for the world.”

A Testament of Patience and Determination

Deeksha shared that the first three days were extremely difficult, but with divine grace and the support of her guru, family, friends, and well-wishers, she overcame both mental and physical exhaustion. While many advised her to reduce the duration of the performance, she stayed determined and successfully accomplished the nine-day goal.

Earlier in July, dancer Remona Evette Pereira had achieved the Golden Book of World Records with a 170-hour Bharatanatyam performance. Inspired by that feat, Deeksha took it as a challenge and extended the duration by an additional 46 hours, setting a new benchmark of 216 hours.

Honor and Recognition

In a grand felicitation ceremony at Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium, D. K. Shivakumar (Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka) honored Deeksha. He remarked: “It is a privilege for me to honor Deeksha. Her patience and discipline embody the very soul of Bharatanatyam.”

Family and Background

Deeksha hails from Arooru village in Brahmavar Taluk. Her mother, Shubha Ji, and father Vithal Ji come from a very humble background. Despite this, Deeksha earned her graduate degree in Bharatanatyam titled ‘Vidushi’ and is now pursuing her postgraduate ‘Vidwat’ studies in Bharatanatyam, dedicating her life to the art form.

Her husband Rahul expressed his pride, saying: “Deeksha’s dedication to Bharatanatyam is deeply inspiring for me as well. Her discipline and love for the art are unparalleled. It is my privilege to stand by her in this historic moment.”

A Historic Achievement for Udupi

Deeksha’s 216-hour Bharatanatyam performance is not only a World Record attempt but also a message to the world that with passion, patience, and discipline, even the impossible can be achieved.

In celebration of this historic milestone, a huge crowd from Udupi gathered to congratulate her, alongside notable supporters, including Mr. G. Shankar, Mr. Mahesh Thakur, Mr. Yashwanth M G and Mr. Raghupati Bhat, who praised her remarkable achievement.
