At the tender age of two, when children are generally unable to name their family members properly, Sreejita Das, a resident of Nayagarh, Orissa and serving as a senior scientist at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Pusa, daughter of Dr Tapas Ranjan Das and Mrs Asima Das, started telling the scientific names of different plants. At a young age, she used to see all the fruits, flowers, vegetables, etc., and even in the movies, she would try to know the scientific name of all the trees and plants she saw or in a park and remember them. Born on May 7, 2012, Kumari Sreejita Das, once she remembers the name of a plant, never forgets it and no matter how fast she asks, she immediately starts telling it. Once, during a program organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Miss Sreejita told the scientific names of many plants in front of everyone, then everyone was very surprised, after that even the media people were surprised to see this work of Sreejita. Later, Sreejita’s parents thought of registering this speciality in the world record.
The parents contacted the office of the world-renowned organization Golden Book of World Records and sent an application. At the age of just 4 years, 10 months, this prodigious daughter made a world record by registering her name in the Golden Book of World Records titled “Youngest to recite scientific names of most number of plants incessantly” by telling the botanical names of 322 plants along with their genus and species in 9 minutes 20 seconds. Earlier, your record was registered by naming 221 plants in 7 minutes. Sreejita Das further broke her record on 17 January 2017 at the age of just 5 years and 1 month by stating the scientific name of 441 plants along with their genus and species in 13 minutes 56 seconds and once again registered her name in the Golden Book of World Records with the title Youngest to Retrieve Scientific Name of Most Number of Plants Instantly and created a world record.
Presently studying in class 3, this promising student is fond of memorizing the scientific names of plants as well as animals and keeps memorizing them. Sreejita’s father Dr Tapas Ranjan Das Ji has a big role in this work because you also have to spend a lot of time daily on the net to answer all the questions, along with Sreejita’s mother Mrs Aasima Das Ji helps to remember these names. Due to doing such extraordinary work at such a young age, this amazingly talented daughter has been honoured with many honours and has become a role model for girls older than her.
