Soakpit, also known as soak pit. It works to recharge groundwater. Recently, Zila Panchayat Durg of Chhattisgarh made a unique record of making soakpit for water conservation. Under which soakpits were made simultaneously in 1200 houses of Durg Zila Panchayat in just 2 hours. It has been built in a structure of 2.5 * 2.5 * 2.5 feet. It has been built with rural public participation without any government grant, which shows collective participation and environmental awareness. This collective effort of the people has been recorded in the Golden Book of World Records.
On June 13, 2025, soakpits have been made simultaneously in 1200 houses of the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Zila Panchayat Durg, Chhattisgarh between 8 am to 10 am. Zila Panchayat Durg got a place in the Golden Book of World Records with the title of “Most Soak Pits Dug Simultaneously For Rainwater Harvesting”. This initiative has been taken under the ‘More Gaon More Pani Campaign’ to promote water conservation work.
On this historic occasion, Dr. Maneesh Visnoei (Asia Head, GBWR), Mr. Subodh Kumar and Ms. Sonal Sharma (Chhattisgarh Head, GBWR) from Golden Book of World Records were specially present. Appreciating this campaign, they presented the certificate of world record to Mr. Bajrang Dubey (CEO, Zila Panchayat Durg).
