Writing the world’s smallest ghazal based on only 4 verses is a wonder in itself, but Mohammad Arif Khan, a resident of Ujjain, has done this feat. Born on May 19, 1970, in Bhairavgarh Ujjain in a very poor family, Arif Ji was hit by polio when he was just a few months old. The parents got treatment to the best of their ability, yet half of the body got affected by polio, even though the body became disabled, Arif ji remained abundant in mind and brain. Being a topper in studies since childhood, you got higher education and got appointed as a government teacher. He was fond of reading and writing since childhood. That’s why after joining the job, you started writing on various subjects, writing stories, short stories, film songs, songs, ghazals, poetry writing, couplets, comic satire research and many other genres including your strong writing. Your works continue to be published in many reputed journals, some of which are- Masalan Samavartan, Paridhi, Panchva Stambh, Akanksha, Chavarna Shubh Tarika, Nav Nirkre, Independent, Contemporary Expression, Saraswati Suman, Nai Disha, Shabd Pravah, Saryu Parivar, Punjab Saurabh, Soch Vichar, Akshar Shilpi, Samlok, Himkhand, Provisional Tulsi Manas Bharti, Prachi Pratibha, Katha Sagar, Antrip, Saanwali Veena, short story expression, Varta Vyom, Raag Bhopali etc. Some of your original books have also been published, which are Arth Ke Aansoo, Gandhigiri, Laughter Ke Dhamaal and Bollywood Filmi Kavita. You have written 1000 short poems and poetry using 1429 Bollywood film names in Bollywood film name poem Shayari, this book has also been registered in the world record. In the year 2017, you composed the world’s smallest ghazal which is based on only 4 matras, because it is the world’s smallest ghazal, you contacted the office of the Golden Book of World Records to register it in the Golden Book of World Records. After getting the necessary information, you applied and after due investigation, on 29 August 2017, your name was registered in the Golden Book of World Records for writing the world’s shortest ghazal. On this extraordinary achievement, you were honoured by various personalities and institutions. Mr Mehmood Hasan ji and Begum Zebunnisa ji, who worked as labourers in Bhairavgarh and nurtured children, would not have guessed that their child would become the pride of the whole state in future. Enthused by his hard work and success, Arif ji continues to make people aware by running various other campaigns including environmental protection, anti-polythene campaign, and tree plantation campaign.
