The motto of the Punjab Police is, “Shubh Karman Te Kabhun Na Tarun”, which means “Never be afraid to walk on the righteous path”. Punjab Police has adopted this motto and given priority to the service and safety of the public. Following this line of duty, Commissionerate Police, Amritsar started an anti-drug campaign “The Hope Initiative: Drive Against Drugs”. Addiction is such a curse for humans and society, which like termites is slowly destroying the society and the drug addict by hollowing them out from within. Today, the youth of the country are most affected by this, who are destroying their lives and futures by considering drugs as a fashion and status symbol and getting attracted towards them. To save the state from this disease of drugs, a three-pronged strategy was made by the Amritsar Police to make the anti-drug campaign “The Hope Initiative” successful, under which every effort is being made to make the state drug-free and healthy through “Prey, Pledge & Play”.
To make Punjab drug-free, yellow turbans were worn under “The Hope Initiative: Drive Against Drugs” at Sri Harimandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar on October 18, 2023, under the guidance of Amritsar Police Commissioner Mr. Naunihal Singh and Director General of Police, Mr. Gaurav Yadav and in collaboration with The Congenital Anomaly Treatment Trust (CATT) more than 35,000 students and youth, dressed in placards and bangles, offered prayers to make Punjab drug-free and healthy and also pledged never to take drugs themselves and prevent others from consuming drugs. This act of the maximum number of people praying together for drug de-addiction was recorded in golden letters in the Golden Book of Records as a world record with the title of “Largest Mass Prayer for Drug De-addiction”. The official provisional certificate of the world record was presented to Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Mann by Dr. Manish Vishnoei, Asia Head of Golden Book of World Records in the presence of Director General of Police Mr. Gaurav Yadav, Commissioner of Police Mr. Naunihal Singh, Rajya Sabha Member Mr. Vikram Jeet Sahni and Minister Mr. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal. Congratulating the world record being made, Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Mann said, “The lamps of all the houses should remain lit, but this is possible only when the youth stay away from drugs.” Thousands of youth also joined online in this program of Ardaas for de-addiction.
Under the third level “Play” of “The Hope Initiative: Drive Against Drug”, a “Hope Cup Tournament” was also organized at Gandhi Ground to keep the youth away from drugs and eliminate the demand for drugs, which Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Mann inaugurated. Many teams are taking part in this tournament, and maybe in the coming time this “Hope Cup Tournament” will also be successful in making a place in the Golden Book of World Records. Police Commissioner Mr. Naunihal Singh has said “If the youth get involved in sports then they will not pay attention towards drugs, as a result of which there will be no demand for drugs, drugs will be controlled to a great extent”. This world record has been created to take the youth of Punjab away from drugs, the participation of such a large number of youth in it is a sign of the bright future of Punjab.
