With the beginning of the month of Sawan, which is the favourite month of Lord Shiva, Kavad Yatras start across the country. During the Kavad Yatra, Shiva devotees fill water from the banks of holy rivers, tie it on the Kavad and hang it on their shoulders and bring it to the Shiva temple and offer that water on the Shivalinga. There is a lot of enthusiasm among Shiva devotees about the Kavad Yatra. According to religious beliefs, by doing the Kanwad Yatra, Lord Shiva fulfils the wishes of all the devotees and removes all the troubles of life. It is told in the Puranas that the Kanwad Yatra is the easiest way to please Lord Shiva. According to beliefs, Lord Parshuram first started the Kanwad Yatra. Lord Parshuram brought Gangajal from Garhmukteshwar Dham and anointed ‘Pura Mahadev’ located near Baghpat in UP with Gangajal. Sawan month was going on at that time, after this the Kavad Yatra started. Even today this tradition is followed by Shiva devotees.

A special Kavad Yatra was organized on the occasion of Sawan month in Sanskardhani Jabalpur. A special Kavad Yatra was organized on the theme of “Run for Nature” by Sanskar Kawad Yatra Samiti under the guidance of Samarth Sadguru Bhaiya ji Sarkar, founder of “Narmada Mission” who has been working for years for the conservation of Narmada river and environmental protection. During this Kavad Yatra, thousands of Kavadis travelled 35 kilometres with a Kavad in one hand and a sapling in the other.
