Cycling is a simple, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly means of transportation. Cycling benefits the environment and is also an economical mode of transport. It does not require petrol or diesel to run, it does not cause any pollution, and anyone can ride it. Cycling is very helpful in keeping us physically and mentally healthy along with the environment. Keeping in mind the changes taking place in everyday life and changing lifestyles, it provides us with a natural means of regular exercise. Cycling strengthens our muscles, improves heart function, and helps in controlling weight. Cycling also helps in promoting our mental health. It helps us in reducing stress, anxiety, and fatigue.

To promote green and healthy modes of transport, the Saksham Cyclothon event was organized in Indore, the cleanest city in the country. Organized jointly by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Indore Cycling Association, Saksham Cyclothon event was inaugurated by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, in the presence of Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya, President of Indore Cycling Association, Shri Ramesh Mendola, local MLA and other dignitaries. More than 37,000 people supported this event by cycling, organized to make the environment and body healthy through fuel conservation. Due to such a large number of people cycling, this event was recorded as a world record by the Golden Book of World Records with the title of “Most People Cycling“. The certificate of the world record was given by Golden Book of World Records Asia Head Dr. Manish Vishnoei (GBR) and representative Mr. Manoj Kumar Shukla. With the announcement of the world record, the venue echoed with the sound of applause.

During the Saksham Cyclothon event, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan Ji in his address spoke about the benefits of cycling. He said that “cycling improves health and also helps the country to conserve fuel. He praised the people of Indore for participating in large numbers in this effort responding to the call of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi towards fuel conservation and conveyed his best wishes to all the city residents on creating a world record. He further said that a milestone has been set by organizing the biggest cycling event ever in Indore”. Popular Sufi singer Hans Raj Hans Ji, who was especially present at the event, enthralled the cyclists with foot-tapping songs, which infused enthusiasm among the people.
