According to the Puranas, various gods and goddesses are recognized in Hinduism, out of which three gods are recognized as senior gods, who are known as Tridev. One of these three gods is Lord Shiva. Lord Shankar is known by different names around the world and in most places, he is worshiped in the form of Shivling. Among all the Shivlings, 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva are considered to be the main ones. In Skandh Purana, Shivling has been called the infinite sky. Lord Shiva is also called the God of Gods, due to which he is also known as Mahadev. One of the Shivlings located in different places around the world is Madheshwar Mahadev. Madheshwar Mahadev is located 29 kms from Jashpur town at a place called Charaidand and 4 kms from the road towards Bagicha. It is mentioned in legends that when the people of the region were troubled and the Dom kings ruled this region, in that era, to help the people and to remove their sorrows, he appeared in the name of Madeshwar or Madheshwar Mahadev. Shri Jaganram ji, who is associated with the worship in the temple, told that on Sawan Mondays, devotees come here not only from Jashpur town but also from far off states and other states for worship. People climb the mountains to offer water in the form of Shivling at its topmost part. There is an incomplete temple on the top and it is said that the goddess is also worshipped there. At present, regular worship is done here by the village Baiga. It is also popular in the stories that whenever there was famine in this area or there was no farming due to lack of rain, then people used to keep empty baskets under the caves and the next day it would be filled with grains and it was believed that this area was a boon given by Mahadev to help the people.
