Shri Ghanshyam Nayak ji i.e. Nattu Kaka, who was seen in the comedy and message serial Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on TV, is no more among the audience. He was suffering from cancer for a long time. He was associated with Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah from the very beginning. Nattu Kaka made everyone laugh a lot with his humorous style. In the show, he used to play the role of Jethalal’s assistant and used to make everyone laugh with his unique style. Everyone was crazy about his cute smile and the way he spoke English in the show.
Nattu became the identity
Mr Ghanshyam Nayak, who played the role of Nattu Kaka in ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’, had become an established name among fans as Nattu Kaka.

Ghanshyam Nayak was so passionate about acting that he wanted to work till his last breath. Her last wish was to die wearing makeup. This was mentioned by Ghanshyam Nayak ji in a private meeting with me in November 2016 during a program organized at Ravindra Natya Griha, Indore. He was accompanied by other actors in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah serial. Nattu Kaka had said, ‘I want to work till my last breath. Till the time I am alive, I want to work in this industry, I want to act. My last wish is to die wearing make-up.
Ruled hearts
There is hardly any character of ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’, who is not settled in the minds of children and adults. From ‘Jethalal’ to ‘Tappu’, ‘Nattu Kaka’ and ‘Dr Hathi’, the characters ruled everyone’s hearts. The way people’s hearts were broken by the death of poet Kumar Azad, who played the role of Dr Hathi, today it is broken in the same way. Like Dr Hathi i.e. poet Kumar Azad, Nattu Kaka (Ghanshyam Nayak) too had settled in the hearts of the people. These were the two characters who left an indelible mark on everyone’s heart and mind. Poet Kumar Azad passed away in the year 2018 and now in 2021 Mr Ghanshyam Nayak also passed away.
Acting went along despite Caesar
Ghanshyam Nayak may have been old and suffering from a serious illness like cancer, but his dedication towards work and the spirit to entertain the audience was absolutely astonishing. That’s why when he was tested for cancer in April this year, even before that he had returned from Daman and Gujarat shooting for ‘Taarak Mehta…’. When the doctors said that he can work and there is no problem, his happiness knew no bounds. His message was to spread positivity.
He was an artist since childhood
Ghanshyam Nayak may have gained fame as ‘Nattu Kaka’, but he was a part of the film and TV industry for decades. Ghanshyam Nayak aka ‘Nattu Kaka’ started his acting journey as a child artist in the 1960 film ‘Masoom’ opposite Dada Muni Ashok Kumar. Since then till now he has been continuously active in acting. In a journey of nearly 60 years, Ghanshyam Nayak worked in Hindi films and TV to Gujarati films.
Along with doing more than 350 TV shows, 250 Gujarati and Hindi films, worked in more than 350 TV serials and about 250 Hindi and Gujarati films. In Bollywood, he appeared in many films like ‘Barsaat’, ‘Ghatak’, Tiranga, ‘China Gate’, ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, ‘Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya’, ‘Lajja’, ‘Tere Naam’, ‘Chori Chori’, Krantiveer and ‘Khakee’. Apart from this, he also got his acting iron proved in 100 Gujarati plays.
Was a good singer too
Along with acting, Shri Ghanshyam Nayak ji also earned a name in the field of singing. He was also a playback singer. Ghanshyam ji gave his voice in 12 Gujarati films along with famous singers like Asha Bhosle and Mahendra Kapoor. Apart from this, he was also dubbed for 350 Gujarati films.
As a child artist, singer and comedian, Shri Ghanshyam Nayak Ji, who was versatile as a singer, will always be missed by his loved ones. Synonymous with his acting, singing and humour, Shri Ghanshyam Nayak ji i.e. ‘Nattu Kaka’ will be missed a lot.
