When a fast-moving car passes by us, it comes to mind that there must be an experienced driver. When you have to go somewhere for a long distance, then only an experienced driver is remembered. The world record for driving a car for the longest distance in the world by a disabled person was recorded in the name of Mr Xavier Stephen of Australia, who made this world record by driving a car of 20000 kilometres. In May 2014, an employee working at Bhilai Steel Plant broke the previously recorded record by driving a 25000 km car and entered the Golden Book of World Records with the title “Longest Journey by Car by a Differently Abled Person in a Single Country” by a differently abled person in a particular country. Everyone heard it well, but when it came to know about Mr Laxmikant Sirke, who made that record, that he did not have one arm and one leg, everyone was stunned to hear it.

Born on 14 December 1961, Shri Sirke, a resident of Chhattisgarh, served in the 36 Maratha Medium Regiment Artillery in the Army from 1980 to 1995, where he specialized in operating the Bofors Cannon. After retirement from the army, he joined the Merchant Mill of Bhilai Steel Plant as a technician. The train of life was moving smoothly on its track when an accident shattered your and your family’s entire condition. It so happened that in the year 2011, you got hit by a train due to which your right hand and left leg got amputated.

After being bedridden for almost a year, you gradually regained your spirit and started coming and going for the job. After a few days, you met a friend of yours from Jaipur who does not have both legs and is working as a manager in a bank. He told that he comes to the office by driving a car, so you also drive the car and continue with your car. It was from here that driving Shirke Ji’s car started which slowly became your passion and eventually you became a source of inspiration for thousands of differently-abled people by doing an extraordinary feat of making a world record.

You often participate in many car driving competitions and you are awarded with many honors. You won the title of winner in the Winter Family Car Rally held in Raipur in the year 2019. In the year 2021, you have set an extraordinary record by breaking your world record by driving a 115000 km car despite not having one arm and one leg. Divyang Ratna Award has been given by the Umeed Helpline Foundation, Udaipur given your special contribution. Mr Shirke, rich in extraordinary confidence, has recently bought a new car and is ready to move forward in the journey of life with new zeal and enthusiasm.
