Ashok Dewangan along with his team has created one-to-one artwork for many organizations and institutions in Chhattisgarh. Ashok’s elder brother Ankush Devangan is a well-known name in the field of art. He is a born artist, while Ashok’s sister is also an expert in doing artwork in rice grains. Ashok Dewangan did a diploma in painting from Khairagarh after graduation in Dalli Rajhara and closely watched his elder brother Ankush Dewangan developing the structured garden of the Bhilai Steel Plant in Dalli Rajhara. Ankush Dewangan also got the work of Purkhauti Muktangan of Raipur, where he got the first opportunity to show his hands and work. There, a lot of mural art was done on the boundary wall. Then many square intersections of Bhilai were decorated with their artwork.
Job from Artwork
Seeing this artwork of Ashok Dewangan, he was given a job in Indian Railways. In the Mechanical Department of Raipur, Bhilai, the officials entrusted Ashok Dewangan with the task of developing the garden etc. of his work area. Ashok would have given such a beautiful form to the western parts of the railway ward with his vision that people would have been stunned. Ashoka engraved the culture of Bastar Art, India Gate, Gateway of India, and Chhattisgarh in various shapes.
Naveen Singh is a Jeweler
There is a General Store Depot in the Urkura area of Raipur Railway, when manager Naveen Singh took charge there, due to his creative nature, he wanted his workspace to look artistic as well. His eyes fell on Ashok Dewangan, so he called Ashok from Bhilai to Raipur and asked him to give artistic colour to the General Store Depot. Ashoka created many artworks in the garden there. One of which is a replica of an ancient railway engine made from a waste tank of kerosene. The biggest scrap yard supplier of the Railway between Nagpur to Bilaspur is General Store Depot located at Urkura, Raipur. One day Naveen Singh said – Ashok, now make some big artwork, something different and Ashok started thinking, about what to do.
Make in India made of teamwork
The logo of the Make in India mission is the figure of a lion. Ashok Dewangan spoke to Naveen Singh in this context. The same logo was also in the concept of Naveen Singh. He said I was also thinking about this. Peach Mani, Srinivasa Rao, Santosh Raut, Chakradhar Sidar, Lalit Manjhi, Harikrishna, and Tulsi Mahanand from the department were included in this campaign. A huge platform was built on the land adjacent to GSD. Urkura is an important train route. That’s why it was made here. Railway waste scrap, plate, fibre, and gear parts were added. Worked hard for ten to twelve hours a day. Six months of hard work paid off and thus the dream came true with teamwork. When the work was completed, a huge crowd gathered to see the 65 feet long and 32 feet high lion (logo). Appreciated by everyone. During the meeting with DRM Rahul Gautam, he asked whether the logo of Make in India can be included in the Golden Book of World Records. When the head office of the Golden Book of World Records was contacted, the result came in favour of the Railways. Manager Naveen Singh and Chief Artist Ashok Dewangan along with their entire team were awarded the Certificate of Golden Book of World Records at Sanskriti Bhawan of General Store Depot area.
