‘Gudi Padwa’ is one of the main festivals of Maharashtra. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Maharashtra. The day of Gudi Padwa is considered to be the beginning of Hindu New Year. The Shukla Pratipada of Chaitra month is called Gudi Padwa or Varsha Pratipada or Ugadi. On this day the ‘Hindu New Year’ begins. Gudi means ‘Vijay Pataka’. It is said that Marathi King Shalivahan defeated the powerful enemies with the army of clay soldiers. As a symbol of this victory, Shalivahan Shaka also starts from this day. It is celebrated as Ugadi in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra. Chaitra Navratri also begins on this day.

On the occasion of Gudi Padwa on 30 March 2025, a Gudi Padwa rally was organized by ‘Dainik Divy Marathi and Deepak Builders and Developers’ in Nashik district of Maharashtra. In which the biggest Gudi (which is 5 feet circumference and 57 meters long) was built by both the committees together. Due to building the biggest Gudi, the names of both the committees were jointly recorded in the Golden Book of World Records with the title of “Biggest Gudi”. This achievement was achieved during the Hindu New Year Gudi Padwa festival.
