Dumb & Deaf children are those who are deprived of the ability to speak and hear either by birth or by some accident. In such a situation, the development of deaf and dumb children is an important and sensitive subject. There is much need for education and social support for these children. They need special training that can develop them, help them stand on their feet economically and help them integrate into their family as well as society. The education, training and development of these children should be in a supportive and loving environment so that they can be independent and successful in their lives.
A five-day skill development camp was organized at the national level for the skill development of deaf and dumb children from 28 September to 02 October 2023 in Guwahati, Assam. The event was organized by Mahaveer Intercontinental Service Organization in association with Anam Prem, Mumbai and Acharya Tulsi Mahashraman Research Foundation at Tulsi Grand, Garal Dharapur. Children from about 22 states of India came to participate in the “22nd National Confluence of Hearing & Speech Impaired Children for Skill Development”, a program organized especially for the skill development of deaf and dumb children. In this camp, children were given various employment-oriented training for skill development along with sales and marketing information. More than 600 people from across the country came to get benefits from the program, including children, caretakers and teachers. The speciality of this training camp was that it was a completely free and residential camp. Along with the food and accommodation of the people, the entire arrangement for travelling and the Guwahati tour was also managed by the organization Mahavir Intercontinental Service Organization, Guwahati Chapter. The main objective of this skill development camp has been to make deaf and dumb children self-reliant to earn their livelihood on their own.
During the five-day skill development camp at the national level for the skill development of deaf and dumb children, two World Records were set which were recognized by the Golden Book of World Records. The first was registered as a World Record with the title “Largest Skill Development Workshop for Hearing and Speech Impaired Children” for organizing the largest ever workshop aimed at skill development of deaf and dumb children, and the Second was for the skill development camp, the maximum number of people were educated on the development and care of dumb and deaf children, which was registered with the title “Largest Session on Hearing and Speech Impaired Children’s Care and Development”. The official provisional certificate of the World Record has been presented by Dr. Manish Vishnoei, Asia Head, Golden Book of World Records (GBWR) to Mr. Lokesh Kavadia, International General Secretary of Mahavir Intercontinental Service Organization and Mr. Ashok Kumar Jain (Chhabra), President of MISO Guwahati Chapter, Secretary Mr. Narendra Jain in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Bishwa Sarma. During the program, the Hon’ble Chief Minister congratulated the organizers and said “In the training camp organized by Mahavir Intercontinental Service Organization, Hearing & Speech Impaired children are developing themselves as a trainer and can teach other disabled children, this is a big success”.
International General Secretary of Mahavir Intercontinental Service Organization Mr. Lokesh Kavadia informed that the Hon’ble Governor of Assam Mr. Gulab Chandra Kataria and MLA of West Guwahati region Mr. Ramendra Narayan Kalita were present as chief guests on the occasion of the inauguration of this five-day skill development camp. Appreciating this camp organized for the skill development of deaf and dumb children, the Honorable Governor announced to provide ₹5 lakh from the Governor’s Reserve Fund to Mahavir Intercontinental Service Organization for their nobel work. Mr. Satish Nagre from ‘Anam Prem’ said that Mahavir Intercontinental Service Organization has done very commendable work for the skill development of deaf and dumb children by following the path shown by Sadhguru Dada Ji.
