Down Syndrome is a genetic condition in which a person has an extra chromosome, also known as trisomy 21. Normally a child is born with 46 chromosomes, 23 from the mother and 23 from the father and these chromosomes are present in pairs. When an extra chromosome is present on the 21st chromosome, it is called Down syndrome. There is a one in a thousand chance of a child having Down syndrome. There is also a possibility of mental illness in 30% of the cases of Down syndrome. Down syndrome is a lifelong condition. Although it cannot be cured, with time doctors and others are more aware of it than ever before. As long as this problem does not affect any physical organ, it is not a serious disease. This can be managed easily. There are also special schools for children suffering from Down syndrome. They need more care and love than normal children so that they too can live a normal life.
In Indore, which is known as the cleanest city in India, 9-year-old Avneesh Tiwari, suffering from Down syndrome, is forgetting his suffering and fighting for the rights of children at a young age. After birth, Avneesh was left by his biological parents in an orphanage, where he was first seen by Mr. Aditya Tiwari who had come to the orphanage to distribute sweets on his father’s birthday. As soon as he met Avneesh, Mr. Aditya Tiwari developed a special affection for the little boy, after which when he discussed with the warden about his adoption, he came to know that due to his young age and being unmarried, it was not legally possible. But after 18 months of hard work and determination to adopt Avneesh, Aditya became his father by officially taking custody of little Avneesh. This decision taken by Mr Aditya made him the world’s youngest single father to adopt a disabled child. For his work, his name was recorded in the Golden Book of World Records as a world record with the title of “Youngest Single Parent to Adopt a Differently-abled Child“.

Avnish Tiwari, suffering from Down Syndrome, climbed Mount Everest at the age of 7. Little Avneesh created world history by hoisting the tricolour along with his father Shri Aditya Tiwari at Mount Kalapathar, located at a height of 18,200 feet of Mount Everest. Avneesh’s name was recorded as a world record in the Golden Book of World Records with the title of “Youngest Differently Abled Child to Trek Himalayan Kala Patthar” as the youngest disabled child to climb Everest. Aditya Tiwari did this climb with Avneesh to change the mindset of people towards disabled and orphan children and to make people aware of them. Avneesh, along with his father, has addressed many seminars across the country and the world to create awareness about the needs of disabled children.

Avneesh was honoured with the Prime Minister’s National Child Award-2024 by President Draupadi Murmu at the age of 9 for his excellent work in the development of society and spreading awareness in the interest of disabled and orphan children after this, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This year 19 children from the country have been given this award. Avnish Tiwari is the only child from Madhya Pradesh who was selected for this award. Avneesh is the youngest awardee among the Prime Minister’s National Children’s Award. By facing many physical and mental difficulties at a very young age and overcoming them, the little hero Avnish Tiwari has proved that if you have courage, you can conquer the world, and no deficiency can become a hindrance to your destination.
